OTHER ACTIVITIES:
WHAT ELSE DO WE DO?
ProgettoMondo Mlal’s commitment for future
years is to become increasingly a service. By “service” we mean
the spirit in which to involve, and to be involved in, the surrounding
territory, even outside the international cooperation environment. ProgettoMondo Mlal therefore offers training and refresher courses for
citizens and social workers, but also for administrators, teachers ,
educators and the school population. In this context, another major
challenge will be to invest even greater energy in decentralized cooperation
by providing to local authorities and private citizens either consultancy
services in the planning of
interventions in Developing Countries, or actual partnership proposals. This
is an essential cultural step to ensure that solidarity is not just the
intellectual privilege of a few but may
be affirmed as the global consciousness of everybody. The third challenge is to
continue working in depth on all issues related to development and
resposibility, including the area of tourism, therefore
encouraging people to get to know other countries and other cultures and
encouraging exchanges both between individuals and between communities, always
with an approach based on respect for
that which does not belong to us. In 1995 Mlal, as a founding member of Aitr, Associazione Italiana Turismo
Responsabile, launched the “Casa Encantada” (“Enchanted House”)
project in Brazil with visits to local socio-economic communities, and since
then has been taking part in the general debate by developing a Charter on the frontiers of modern tourism,
which deals with the awareness of man as traveller, the contact between the
tourist and the new community around him, the idea of travel organized on the
basis of criteria of respect for the
environment and for culture, the economic promotion of local communities, transparency
of prices and information/ training for the traveller. ProgettoMondo Mlal
organizes experience camps periodically
for students and other interested people. One or two weeks of full immersion in
a Country in the South, devoted to discussion and training on the issues of
international cooperation and solidarity among peoples. Civilian
service is another form of participation, which enables young people
between the ages of 18 and 25 to perform one year’s service as part of one of
our Projects either abroad or in Italy at one of
our headquarters. ProgettoMondo Mlal also takes part in the cultural
debate by organizing opportunities for meetings and the exchange of
information and by producing thematic
publications. Lastly, for parties, celebrations, weddings, christenings and
other ceremonies, ProgettoMondo Mlal provides
solidarity gift boxes (“bomboniere”)
or small gift ideas
based on the theme of international solidarity. By purchasing them or giving
them as gifts we can involve other people in supporting one of our
international cooperation projects.
